Visuals in live concerts are not just decorations; they can completely transform the audience’s experience. Imagine colors, shapes, and patterns coming to life on stage, changing with the rhythm of the music. This magic is made possible through powerful software like Resolume and TouchDesigner.
Resolume is an industry-standard video mixing software perfect for live performances. It allows you to seamlessly play and mix video clips, images, and effects. TouchDesigner, on the other hand, is a visual development platform that enables you to create interactive and generative visuals.
By combining these two software, you can create truly unique and mesmerizing scenes. For example, you can generate real-time camera effects using TouchDesigner and then mix them with video clips in Resolume. This provides artists with a new way to interact with the audience on stage.
But creating such complex visuals comes with its challenges. A major obstacle is managing GPU memory. When you run too many effects at once, the GPU gets overloaded, causing memory to fill up and freeze.
To solve this problem, I developed a scripted UI that allows me to manage my effects more efficiently. This UI lets me turn specific effects on and off as needed, reducing the load on the GPU.
This UI was built using knowledge from Google, YouTube, blogs, and research papers. It demonstrates that the combination of creativity and technical skills can create truly amazing things.
If you want to take your live concerts to the next level, consider using powerful software like Resolume and TouchDesigner. And if you’re worried about GPU memory management, remember that there are always solutions through scripting.
Process:
My process involves creating real-time visual effects using Resolume and TouchDesigner. I generate real-time camera effects in TouchDesigner and then send them to Resolume via NDI. In Resolume, I mix video clips and effects and then display them on screen.
